I didn't, but was tempted. An antique sports car club was going to Vancouver Island the same time I was, and they had at least three bug-eyed Sprites in British racing green. I *love* those cars. My dad raced one for years. But it was a ferry. I couldn't steal one. I wasn't sure it would float.

Ferries

I rode the Elwha (which can be rearranged to spell 'whale') to Vancouver Island and back. I remember this ferry from when I was a kid, and actually have photos of my brother and me hanging onto the green railings at the front (or back) of the boat. I'm not sure which ferry is my favorite of all the San Juan area ferries, but it's a toss-up between the Anacortes boats and the Tsuwassen boats as to which I rode the most. I'm often bemoaning the fact that there are few vistas straight out to sea around here, but there's nothing like riding through the channels between the islands.

Of course, customs sucked. This was the first time I had to go through customs twice going in one direction. It's a darn good thing I was paranoid enough to take my birth certificate with me, because they asked for it. Then they told me to take off my shoes. But they were joking.
